About TheBoredPlanBot
The Bored Plan is a free, hyper-local event discovery app for small towns. To keep our event listings current, our crawler periodically reads publicly available event calendars from city tourism sites, chamber of commerce pages, and community newspapers. This page explains what we do, what we don't do, and how to reach us if you want changes.
User-Agent
TheBoredPlanBot/1.0 (+https://theboredplan.app/scraper-info; community event aggregator)
What we do
- Read publicly accessible event pages, the same content any human visiting your site can see.
- Honor
robots.txton every host. If you disallowTheBoredPlanBotor*, we skip the page. - Throttle to one request every 3 seconds per host.
- Use Anthropic Claude to extract structured event data (title, date, venue, ticket info) from page HTML.
- Copy short factual descriptions (1-2 sentences when present) verbatim with attribution back to your page. Facts (date, venue, time, free/paid status) are not copyrightable per Feist v. Rural Telephone (1991). Short factual descriptions used with attribution and a link to the original source are taken under our good-faith reading of fair use; we will remove anything on request.
- Always link back to your original page as the source on each event listing.
What we don't do
- Log in to any site or scrape behind authentication.
- Rehost your images. We link to them in-place if at all.
- Copy long-form prose or marketing copy. We cap descriptions at roughly 600 characters and only include text that is plainly factual.
- Crawl pages excluded by
robots.txt, nofollowmetadata, orX-Robots-Tagheaders. - Hit your site faster than once every 3 seconds.
Opt out / takedown
If you want us to stop crawling your site, or to remove a specific listing, you have three options that all work immediately:
- Add
User-agent: TheBoredPlanBot+Disallow: /to yourrobots.txt. We re-check robots.txt every 6 hours. - Email hello@theboredplan.app with the URL or domain you want excluded. We'll remove and confirm within one business day.
- For DMCA / copyright-specific takedowns, include the URL of the page on
theboredplan.appand a description of the protected material. See our privacy policy for full details.
Why we exist
Most event-discovery apps focus on big-city ticketed events. Small-town community events (fish fries, library story times, high school sports, farmers markets, faith gatherings) don't show up on Eventbrite or Facebook search. The Bored Plan is built specifically for the people who live in those towns, and that depends on aggregating events from the chambers, newspapers, and community sites that already publish them. We want to be a good neighbor. If anything we do is unwelcome, let us know and we'll fix it.
